Exclusive VIP Visit For Lancashire Training Provider
Training 2000 helped kick-start their campaign to achieve the highest standards of health and safety with a visit from the chair of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).Judith Hackitt CBE spoke at their Leading Health and Safety event on Monday November 29th, at the centre in Nelson, to remind managers of the importance of safety in the workplace. She also talked about the recent report on common sense approaches to health and safety by Lord Young.
It is the first time that Judith has visited a training organisation and our functional leader HSE, Mike Sagar, described Judith's visit as a 'major coup' for the company.
"It is not every day that you get a visit from the chair of the HSE and Judith's appearance at our meeting shows that we are absolutely committed to health and safety," said Mike, who is also chairman of the North West Regional Association of Occupational Health and Safety Groups.
"We are aiming to attain the Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series standard 18001, with which we can prove to a body of external auditors that we have all the necessary management systems in place to ensure the highest quality health and safety procedures."
Chief executive, Steve Gray, added: "We are very grateful to Judith for agreeing to be the keynote speaker at our meeting. Her talk was extremely interesting and inspiring and we look forward to building on this to achieve our health and safety goals."
As well as leaders from Training 2000, representatives from the health and safety team at the Skills Funding Agency and Burnley-based company Aircelle attended the event.
Judith was appointed chair of the Health and Safety Commission in 2007 for a term of five years and became chair of the HSE when the two organisations merged in April 2008. Judith previously served as a Commissioner between 2002 and 2005 and was awarded her CBE for services to health and safety.
