A new course aimed at introducing young people to career opportunities within the Health & Social Care and Childcare sectors has been hailed a success as the first group of students complete their qualification this week and have already started to secure employment.

Bolton based Alliance Learning was one of the first training providers in the country to offer the course which was launched in September 2011.

The Edexcel BTEC Level 1 Certificate has been designed to help learners understand the skills and knowledge needed to work in the Health and Social Care and Childcare sectors and to develop practical skills in preparation for employment or progression in education.

19 year old Kym Ratcliffe from Bolton completed her qualification this week and has already secured a full time job as a nursery nurse as a direct result of the course. Kym said:

"I found the course extremely useful. The staff at Alliance Learning were really friendly and helpful, with lots of knowledge of working in childcare. They helped me write my CV and prepare for my interview - I'm just so happy to have got a new job and I'm now looking forward to getting started and completing my level 2 qualification in childcare."

Students started the course in September and attended lessons at the Horwich training centre every Tuesday and Wednesday. Topics included communications skills, health and safety, safeguarding, principles and values as well as practical help and support for CV writing and interview techniques.

Anyone aged 19 or above who is struggling to gain employment can enroll on the course. No qualifications are required and the course is fully funded.

Alliance Learning will be starting the next 12 week course in January and are encouraging anyone who is interested in applying to call them now on 01204 696 744.

24 year old Nusrath Normohamed wants to encourage anyone interested in a career in the care sector to get in touch and book a place on the course. She said:

"The course was brilliant - really exciting and creative. The tutors were friendly and helped to give me a good understanding of my career options in a care environment - both working with children and the elderly. The course has opened lots of doors to me and I've got a good idea of how I can achieve my ambitions now."
