QCF Transitions – the evolution of training

(23.08.10) THE world of education and training is preparing for big changes to the landscape of learning. The new Qualification Credit Framework, titled QCF, will be rolled out across the country and will replace all existing qualifications by the end of 2010; these includes NVQ's and Apprenticeships.

The Qualifications & Credit Framework (QCF) is the new system for creating and accrediting qualifications and will give learners and employers a wider choice and freedom when choosing courses.

Every full qualification in the QCF is made up of units, with each unit holding a credit value that tells you how long the unit takes to complete. A credit is approximately 10 hours work and the total value of a qualification will tell you its size and therefore the amount of work involved in achieving it.

The new format will be tailored more towards employer and individual needs, allowing learners to train for the skills they will be expected to apply in their future employment.

The QCF is already up and running with the final implementations scheduled for the end of 2010.

Training provider, Alliance Learning, is leading the way with over 20 new accredited QCF Qualifications on offer. Keen to highlight the benefits to local learners and employers, Alliance are urging people to get in touch with them to discuss the QCF in more detail.

With the QCF you can build the same qualification from different combinations of units to suit individual interests and skills. The QCF also allows learners to take their achievements with them throughout each unit or course - so once you've got the training, you keep the qualification with you no matter what you do next.

Paul Cocker, Alliance Learning's Operations Executive said:
"The QCF transitional period is not as daunting as it first appears! In fact they have been introduced to better suit the needs and circumstances of learners and employers, making this an opportune time to start a course.

"Alliance Learning are at the forefront of training in the North West and therefore we are urging people to get in touch and ask us about any queries they may have about the QCF or apprenticeships and training in general."
