Radio Lancashire comes to Training 2000!

On Thursday 13th May Training 2000 were invited to take part in a live feature in the studio at Radio Lancashire and a live link in the engineering workshop at their Blackburn site to promote their ongoing Girls Allowed campaign.

Marilyn Pilkington, 14-19 Engagement Manager, went along to Radio Lancashire's breakfast show with Holly Ardern, a year 9 pupil who had recently visited Training 2000 when her school, Alder Grange in Rawtenstall, took part in the GTA's Girls Allowed in Construction day. They talked about how the campaign challenges local female students' preconceived ideas on careers in construction.

At the same time, a reporter set up a live link in the engineering workshop with 3 of the GTA's female apprentices, and they told the listeners why they had chosen a career in engineering, what it's like being a female in a traditionally male-dominated environment, and their career plans for the future. They spoke about how many industries are under represented in terms of the number of female workers employed within the sector as a result of the barriers created from gender and occupational stereotypes.

Through activities such as their Girls Allowed campaign, Training 2000 are trying to tackle these stereotypes and show gender shouldn't be a barrier to anyone.
